ad film ka majaa...

I always thought there are two kinds of advertisement made in this world: ads which are made for artistic pleasure and ads which are made for commercial pleasure. Then I saw the third kind: total bull shit crap.

The first kind is made by those crazy ad film makers who think Ad-film making as the most interesting job in this world. Ads of the likes of Fevicol, Cadbury( kya swad hai jindagi series). I would also add the Hutch ads to the same list. IF you have seen the husn ad of Chevrolate, you will surely count that one in this category only. In good old days also Ads were made in this category. Amul, no doubt will be one of the best made ad in India. What a pleasure to eyes. Pure art and no crap.

The second kind is technically not that good but they convey the basic idea and thus are useful in spreading information about the product. Most of the consumer electronic ads especially those of mobile phones (Nokia N series like) belong to this category. Remember the ad for Bajaj Auto or Jalebi wala ad of Dhara oil. They all tell you what product they are endorsing and what are its pluspoints. Not so beautiful but so effective.

The third I am seeing recently. All bull shit, non sense crap. Total waste of money and time (at least for me). Ajay and Kajol’s Chal Chala Chal for Tata Indicom ( though it was commercially very successful), Rani’s new Fanta ad, Pepsi TV series, Akshay’s ThumbsUp ad, Aish’s new softdrink ( ijust hate her so dont even remember the name of the comapny) ad, and even (sorry to say but) Amir’s new Coke ad. Its not that only softdrink companies are making bad ads. Have you seen new Hero Honda ad for Shineor that professer-professer ad of Mcdowells No 1 (soda to be specific)? All the same, boring ,non sense stuff.

Ad film making is an art. But the whole purpose of ad film making is not pleasing art goddess. It has to have commercial value. I remember all those good ads and thus their brand also. So indeed the purpose is solved. For the counter argument I remember the brand of all these bad ads also. Now its up to me to take information from them and utilize it.

But still one last time… cut the crap man..

nice post man....but I feel u shud have trashed the McDowell's campaign a little more...its by far the most disgusting ad i have seen in a long time....of course all the others u have mentioned in the same breath can lay claim to that too...but for some reason, that's the one that infuriates me the most....the others come under a "lesser evil" umbrella, if I may, for want of a better phrase....
