Life In A... Metro

life in a METRO by Anurag Basu

Another brilliant attempt to understand complex science love and relationships. Some of my friends told me that they felt this movie resembles page 3. I guess they are not totally wrong. Some stories and incidents can be called to be similar to those in page 3. But most importantly no character here resembles any one in page 3. They do not belong to that creed of fame crazy so-called party animals. Metro depicts story of people who could be amongst us - in your office, in your neighbourhood, in your family, in you.

It tells us stories about love, relationships, business deals and dreams. You can relate to all as well as none. No feel good notion attached to anything. Everything is as blunt as a rusted knife's edge. Isn't life the same? No preaching either. You get what you want. Anurag Basu has shown what he thinks is his views about everything.

The screenplay is interwoven around small stories which are somehow related to each other. Six degree of separation theory is indeed a reality. Your life and karma is not only yours. It affects many others. And this movie brilliantly shows the same.

A must watch...

I haven't watched Page 3 so can't really comment on it.

As for Life in a Metro, superb movie. Loved the acting, direction and dialogues.

The music was awesome. Been recommending the movie to everyone.

metro .. i have seen the movie .. but if you ask me .. i wud rate it 2.5
definitely, on a lot of insistence (from pritesh)i will strech the rating to 3 but not more than 3. Oh .. this is out of 5, mind you! :)

Reason being, the movie tends to become predictable, i think, 20-25 minutes into the movie.

the highly over-amibitious Rahul has to come to a place where he has to part away with his ambition and take a decision that will over-rule his philosophy at work.

there is something wrong with konkana sengupta's affair .. that is for sure at the word go .. she has to get hooked on to irfan becoz that is why that first scene is there in the movie.

kay kay, with no doubts about his acting: if you hate him in the movie that is what he is acting for. with a hidden feeling in your mind, you knew that shilpa shetty is not gonna get physical with shini and kay kay will return home. The guy goes around doing everything but the gal shouldn't get physical is the traditional philosophy the movie caters to, this doesn't bring any surprise.

same with sharman joshi ... it's a movie .. he falls in so-called 'true love' .. they can't do injustice to that.

the movie .. with the setting with which opens leaves nothing but the wait for the eventual happy ending ..

however, definitely, the better parts of the movie are the neatly woven threads of the so many stories in 1 movie. the movie doesn't seem discontinous anywhere.
even though you tend to know where it will end, keeps you involved with the movie .. and the best portion, for sure, is the humour that irfan brings in.

the song picturisation will also make you sit up and watch the screen admiringly! :)

all in all .. a watchable movie :):)

@ubi: Good Good. Keep the good work going.

@vatsy: yes dude. It surely does it.

@shashank: 3/5 not bad. I thought you will give it something like 2/5 or less.
Movie is predictable? Yes it does. Afterall we have seen many such stories. The beauty of metro lies in the bluntness with which director has depicted all the stories. He does not need to explain us each and everything and then leaves it on us to take a stance or otherwise.
Did Rahul have any philosophy at work? Certainly not. He is doing what he thinks he needs to. Its a pure business.
Konkana's story is simple fun-filled loved story. To an extent I think her charcter is like the pivot for all the other story.
Shilpa's role is made a typical indian woman. She is moving forward but still holds on to the roots.
Kaykay is brilliant, no doubt about it.
Sharman is not true love. He is true to himself. And thats it. He does not leave his dream for his love. But for the fact that he realizes that it is not worth it. There is no failing in this. He is a hero.

Rest all, I surely agree with you. :) There is another entry talking about each and every character coming soon. :)
